Picnic On A Boat

Set the scene

Think about the ambiance you wish to create. You might want to dock the boat on the marina of your choice or anchor at a secluded place and set a table. To make an impression pick a theme to steer guests to your desired mood. For example, you may wish to combine colors and music to create a certain atmosphere. How about all white and lounge music or vibrant colors with the latest club hits? Make sure you let your guests know in advance what to wear and what to bring with.

Preparing the area

As you know, space on a deck is limited so organization is important. Have everything you and your guests need at hand (you could place your picnic essentials, such as sunscreen, in a basket or set of baskets). Provide towels, throws, pillows, scarves etc. Remember too, it can easily get windy so make sure to pack some tablecloth clips.

It's all about the food

The key here is to keep it simple. Best picnic foods include salads, quiches, empanadas, spreads (e.g., hummus) and bread. For a stylish touch try to assemble/or preorder a cheese platter. Don’t forget dessert! Our favorites are macaroons and brownies as they pair well with champagne.

Careful, the bar is open!

It is important to keep hydrated under the sun and to go easy on alcohol. You may want to elevate the mood with a glass of champagne, but it’s safer to stick to mineral water and juices after that. One trick: few bottles of frozen mineral water will help preserve the food in the cooler and at the same time serve as an extra refreshment.

Quality time is important

Let’s be honest — people go on picnics for food and drink and good company. However, while some enjoy conversation as they are lounging on comfy pillows, others like to be more active. What is your crew like? To have something for everyone, make sure there are activities available. Have playing cards, a beach ball, board games, or floats at hand or initiate physical activities. How about yoga? Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to take lots of pictures.

Be kind to the environment

Whatever you do, rule number one is not to litter. For a stylish ambiance, avoid plastic plates, takeout food containers and plastic utensils as they look cheap and untidy. Instead, opt for beautiful melamine dishes. They are great alternative to ceramic dishes and are a must-have for picnic of any sort.

Time to send the invitations!

Now that the plan is ready, it’s time to spread the word. Make sure you let your guests know in advance what they should wear and what to bring with.

Hopefully this list can help you and your crew to have an amazing picnic experience.
